Great customer service doesn't just happen. It's more than greeting people by name or answering your phone promptly. We'll talk about simple things you can do in your office that will help you provide superior customer service.
Can you answer these questions?
- What is good customer service?
- What do your patients want? What do they expect?
- What do patients dislike? What makes them mad?
- What do you do when the phone rings while you’re helping someone at the front counter?
- Is your website designed as a customer service tool?
- By what name should you greet your patients?
- What questions can you ask on your registration forms that help you improve customer service?
- Is social media your friend?
- Are you using technology effectively?
BONUS: Register for this webinar and you can attend the Ask Doug Anything webinar on December 12 for FREE!

Upcoming webinars
Handling Checks - Wednesday, December 4: We'll cover several topics about checks in this Power Boost webinar: Returned checks, checks marked "Paid in full," unsigned checks, post-dated checks, stop payment checks, redepositing checks. (30 minutes, $79)
Ask Doug Anything - Thursday, December 12: This is our quarterly webinar of just questions and answers, focusing on HIPAA and collecting from patients. (Up to 60 minutes, $49)
Creating a Financial Agreement - Thursday, January 9: The more you tell your patients right up front, the easier it is to collect on an account. We'll be looking at some sample language for your financial agreement. We will review the required language if you are charging finance charges or passing collection agency fees on to your patients. We'll talk about how often you need to have your patients review and sign this agreement. If your financial agreement isn't at least a page long, you're missing some items! (30 minutes, $79)
Ten Easy Steps to Using Small Claims Court - Wednesday, January 22: Taking someone to court can be intimidating. However, this tool can be extremely effective in collecting your accounts. Even the threat of a collections lawsuit will get a number of accounts collected. We'll talk through the steps prior to using the court, the kinds of forms you will need to complete, and what you can do after you win in court. (It's really difficult to lose in small claims court!) (60 minutes, $99)
Recordings of the webinars will be made available to registrants, so if you can't attend "live" or need to review what was said, you can listen at any time during the next 30 days. Extended 1 year access is also available. You have unlimited access during this time period, so you can watch as many times as you want.

Collection tip for November 12
Q. Last week, you told us it was legal to barter for services (except mental health offices), as long as we recorded it on the books. What if the service received is for the doctor's personal use? Our doctor gets free hair and nail care in exchange for free dental care.
A. I'm not a tax professional, but I have been told the doctor needs to reimburse the practice for the value of the services received, and pay taxes on that.
Collection tip for November 5
Q: One of our patients owns a custom cabinet business. She offered to build us some cabinets in exchange for free dental care. Is this legal?
A. Yes, as long as you record the transactions, and pay your taxes. In this case, ask her to submit an invoice, to document the value of the cabinets. Post your payment of the invoice as a credit to the patient's account. EXCEPTION: Mental health offices cannot barter. It violates your code of ethics, because it gets into boundary issues.

Q: We process our checks electronically through ACH. If a check bounces, can we re-submit the check?
A. Yes. Ideally you should have language in your financial agreement and on your payment webpage that says you will re-submit checks returned for non-sufficient funds.
